As someone who flies about a million miles per year, I admit that I love anything related to aviation. One topic of double interest: the branding of airlines.
Now there is a new book, Airline Visual Identity 1945 – 1975 (May 2015) by Matthias Hühne, that tells the visual story of how some of the world’s greatest airlines have evolved their brands. For some of the existing airlines, the logos shown here are only a memory. Perhaps we take a look and compare how far the airlines have traveled in advancing their visual identities.
The book is a survey of the visual identities of the world’s greatest airlines presented in a book that will only appear in a print edition, with a total of seventeen different colors, five different types of varnishes, and two different methods of foil printing and embossing .
