Aguiar Avocados

By Gail Aguiar @ImageLegacy

The avocado trees in my in-laws’ backyard have pollinated like crazy this year, well on their way to producing a bumper crop. There are 15 just in this section alone! I don’t remember their avocado trees ever producing fruit, but apparently they are making up for it now. It is The Year of the Avocado in my in-laws’ backyard.

Some of the best avocados I’ve ever tasted were grown in Portugal, with a smooth texture and very thin skin. I’m looking forward to making a lot of GUACAMOLE as soon as these are ready. However, guacamole is very uncommon in Portugal; the Portuguese eat it more like a dessert — with sugar. Yes, my first reaction was “what?” but then I have to remind myself that mashed avocados was what I was fed as a baby in the Philippines.

(It doesn’t feel like mid-October when I’m talking about picking avocados..?)
