Afternoon Tea at Seaham Hall

If you saw my recent outfit, you'll know I've been back to Seaham Hall. This time it wasn't for a treatment, but to experience their afternoon tea; something I seem to be doing on a monthly basis! We were seated at a large table in Byron's Bar and Grill Restaurant (since it was rather windy and the threat of rain loomed in dark clouds we didn't have the option to sit on the terrace) while a member of staff asked us whether we'd like tea or coffee. We both opted for tea and soon enough we were tucking in to a big mug each, waiting for our afternoon tea stand to arrive.Seaham Hall's afternoon tea is quite traditional with a little twist when you get to the desserts. Sandwiches included ham hock and mustard, cheese and cucumber, egg mayo and a smoked salmon option too. Since my Mam and I have become quite adept to afternoon tea from these recent jaunts, we've formed a system for the sandwiches and she eats any egg ones then we half the remaining two so we can sample all the flavours on offer. The scones were lovely, very soft and light though I would've liked a cheese option and this is where St Mary's Inn win slightly with their three mini scones. As we had two scones each, we both opted to take one home to enjoy the following day.
After our huge scones and a second teapot arrived (berry hibiscus for me and Early Grey for Mrs S) we were getting quite full and hoped we'd be able to take our remaining desserts home. I enjoyed the little trifle served in a teacup, followed by an almond slice.Afternoon Tea at Seaham Hall is £22pp or £32pp for champagne (maybe if I wasn't driving then I would've had a glass of bubbly which we were kindly offered by staff, but I do love a good cuppa!) It's served daily and booking is essential. We attended on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was quite busy with couples and friends enjoying their sandwiches and cake.
We had a lovely afternoon and I'm quite happy about this regular mother/daughter trip out. Where should we go next?Seaham Hall invited Hello Freckles to complimentary afternoon tea for two.
