Last night, the city erupted.
Wrigleyville was overtaken and everywhere else in surrounding Lakeview was inundated. Hundreds of thousands of fans poured into the streets to celebrate the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series after an intense and nervewracking tied score that went into extra innings.
Was it rowdy? At times. Was it crowded? Of course. It was everything all at once, but one thing it was not, was hostile. Through it all, there was positivity in the air that stemmed from a shared love of our winning team.
As police detail quickly blocked all entrances to Clark Street in an attempt to contain the crowd near the Field, fans spread their way to the surrounding streets. We were there, and suffice it to say, it was pretty wild.
Here are some snapshots of what went down last night after the Cubs took the championship.
