Africa’s largest airports are as follows:

10. Tunis Carthage International Airport (Tunisia) receives 6.2 million passengers per year.

The airport serves as the headquarters for Nouvelair Tunisia, Tunisair Express, Tunisavi, and Tunisair.

9. Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Nigeria

In 2009, 6.5 million passengers passed through the Airport. The airport was built during WWII and was named after Nigeria’s military ruler, Murtala Muhammad. The airport is now used as a hub by Arik Air, Azman Air, Med-View Airline, Air Peace, Dana Air, and Ibom Air.

8. Hurghada International Airport in Egypt. 6.6 million passengers p.a.

The airport is currently renovating and expanding the terminal’s capacity to accommodate more flights. The ongoing expansion will more than double the current annual passenger capacity of 6.6 million passengers to more than 13 million passengers.

7. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya 7.1 million passengers per year.

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is located in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital and largest city. It is located on the outskirts of Embakasi. There are nonstop flights from the airport to over 50 countries.

6. Algeria Houari Boumediene Airport, Algeria

It has an annual passenger throughput of 7.11 million passengers. It is the primary international airport serving Algeria’s capital, Algiers.

5. Mohammed V International Airport, Morocco

The airport handles 10.3 million passengers per year. It is located in Casablanca, Morocco.

This airport serves as a hub for Royal Air Maroc, Royal Air Maroc Express, and Arab Air Maroc. With the highest number of passengers transiting to multiple destinations, the airport is one of Africa’s busiest cargo hubs.

It has an annual passenger throughput of 10.82 million passengers. The airport is the main international airport serving Cape Town and the second busiest in South Africa, handling approximately 117 passenger flights per day.

3. Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa Bole International Airport

The airport handles a total of 12.1 million passengers per year. It was previously known as Haier Selassie International Airport I, and it is now the primary hub for Ethiopian Airlines. The port handles approximately 137 passenger flights to 106 destinations per day.

2. Egypt’s Cairo International Airport

Every year, 15 million passengers pass through the airport. Egypt’s largest and busiest airport is Cairo International Airport (CIA). It handles approximately 175 passenger flights per day and serves approximately 84 destinations worldwide.

The airport, which serves as the primary hub for Egypt Air, Express, and Nile Air, has multiple terminals spread across 37 square kilometers.

With up to 28 million passengers passing through each year and an average of 282 passenger flights per day, it is Africa’s busiest airport. It serves as the hub for South African Airways.
