Advent Calendar – Day Twenty Three

All this Foyle’s War watching has made me hanker for the sophisticated, glamorous styles of the 1930s and 40s so I swapped today’s scheduled dress for this fabulous Vionnet evening gown from the end of 1938. Of course, the costumes in Foyle’s War (which is a detective series set in Margate in the 1940s) are rather workaday but I expect something like this would set the hearts of most of the female cast beating a bit faster.

It certainly makes my heart beat a bit faster. I mean, just look at it. This is one of the very few dresses that I have featured that you could almost certainly get away with wearing nowadays – you can just imagine someone like Kate Moss perhaps (who has a fondness for the vintage, black, glittery and bias cut) turning up on a red carpet in this and looking absolutely amazing.
