The thought of a new set of designed windows that allow the sun's light to enter, and at the same time capture the energy needed to meet all energy needs -- may exist in a near future.
This futuristic design makes windows function as solar cells. Think about it, this means less reliance on fossil fuels and an increase in scenarios leading to a greener and cleaner environment.
This idea may not be as futuristic as we think. Researchers at the ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences have conducted a study, and designed an optimal organic solar cell that has high level transparency features with high power conversion efficiency ratios. The study has been published in Nature Photonics. This means a very positive move towards getting more affordable, clean, widely usable, and architecturally acceptable renewable energy technology.
