Local celebrity Mark Lee is the latest to step on the NFT space.
The funnyman, who has been in show business for over 20 years, is releasing an NFT series under the banner of his production company, King Kong Media Productions.
An NFT is an exclusive cryptocurrency which can take the form of anything digital, like a drawing, an animated GIF, or a song.
Called the Kong Collective, some 444 dedicated digital NFT collectibles will be released on the ETH blockchain in late August.
In a press release on Monday (Aug. 15), King Kong Media Productions offered each collectible as a lifetime license for premium membership at the company, that manages veteran artists including Henry Thia and Marcus Chin, as well as produces films, concert and videos production.
Membership benefits will reportedly consist of VIP tickets to concerts and film festivals, meet-and-greet sessions with artists, and special merchandise.
“To start with, we want to experience with fan engagement and how we can offer value for our NFT owners,” stated Lee, 53, of the future series.
Other local celebrities who have released their own NFT series’ involve rapper Shigga Shay.
Shay sold out his first series of 999 NFTs, named Spacebars, within four minutes of its release on April 13.
The series is based on the cover of his 365 EP, announced in 2020, with animated artworks featuring a cartoon version of the rapper as an astronaut. These were accompanied by a rap verse which 29-year-old Shay wrote particularly for the series.
Meantime, Singaporean model-influencer Irene Zhao, 28, made headlines in January when her collection of NFTs made $7.5 million transaction volume in 10 days.
The 1,106 NFTs feature Zhao in different poses which show off her figure, with several meme phrases such as “Have fun poor” and “Take my money” shown across the frame.
