Young Athletes League (@athletesleague) brought their form of dirty electronica to Bowery Ballroom Saturday night, opening for headliners Com Truise (@comtruise) and Actve Child (@active child). With sparse lyrics and layer upon layer of their glassy tones, the Young Athletes League were ideal for an opener — a charming young band from the UK setting the mood for the evening.
Com Truise, one of many pseudonyms for Seth Haley, set to work bending and shaping notes into pretty much whatever he felt like with his magical sound board, making himself the musical equivalent of a balloon animal artist. Seth Haley, a 10 year veteren of New York’s music scene, certainly demonstrated the proper technique for how to ignite a room.
Finally it was time for the beautiful sounds of Pat Grossi and Active Child. Offering selections from their newly released album, You Are All I See, and 2010′s EP Curtis Lane, the group’s angelic syth-pop structure cast its sexy shadow over the Bowery Ballroom. Grossi’s heavenly choir boy voice and intricate harp playing accompanied by mellow dramatic keyboard measures and deep percussion produced a sound beyond expectations.
