Accommodation Review – Ostel, Wriezener Karree 5, Berlin, Germany

By Emma @glasgowfoodie

Located in the Friedrichshain area of Berlin and a 5 min walk from Ostbahnhof is Ostel, a nostalgic hostel ideal for backpackers,  young couples, families and anyone with a love for Ostaligie and DDR kitsch.

We are big fans of modern history and Berlin/East German history and have eyed up. Ostel on previous trips.  The very nice folks at Visit Berlin suppled us with accommodation to explore the city.  It was a great location being near to S and U Bahn as well as mainline railway and bus services – all you need for a Berlin break.

The rooms are located within each flat, you might be lucky and get a balcony or be located in the old children’s bedroom!

The rooms have a table and chair, window as well as vintage radio – if only it could play the old news and music. Retro books line the bookcase and walls are covered with flowery wallpaper and a portrait of Erich Hoenicker in some rooms

Each flat has it’s own original bathroom with toilet, sink and shower, which leads to some old Eastern queuing in the morning.

With no lift, this is a real housing estate, you get the pleasure of lifting your own bags up the stairs!

There is also an on site DDR style restaurant to complete the experience. Review to follow!
