Thoughts on The Oddsockeaters
Characters – Hugo is a young innocent Odd Sock Eater that must travel across town to meet his family who will teach him the ruthless world of hunting and rival gangs, he will need to prove his worth to his Uncle to stay in his household. Big Boss is his Uncle that has set the strict rules about not stealing both socks. Spike Riser is the rival that used to be part of the gang, he broke the rules and now has his own gang known as the Blades. Bladette is the female sock eater who just becomes the damsel in distress. We have twin brothers in Tulamor and Ramses who are always out to impress their father.
Story – The story follows the creatures known as Sockeaters that steal the human socks to eat, they are invisible to people, we follow an innocent young sockeater that gets caught in the battle between two gangs that want control of the city. Here we learn how biter rivals can cost family’s and how greed can consume any creature. The gangs creature do feel generic, but it is still a lot of fun to watch this story.
Adventure/Family – The adventure side of this film takes Hugo a young sockeater across the city to learn about what the others in town do when they eat socks, this shows him entering the big world, which is like how the family side of the film comes along, by seeing how the creatures work as a family, make mistakes and get the odd bit of slapstick for the humor needed.
Settings – The film is set in a city, not sure which one, but we get to see the different locations they hide out in being an apartment or under a bridge.
Animation – The animation does have its own unique look which does make this film feel that extra little bit enjoyable.
Scene of the Movie – The rescue.
That Moment That Annoyed Me – The story does feel very busy at times, which could put the young audience off.
Final Thoughts – This is a fun animation that could get a laugh from most of the audience, it has a nice meaning and pokes fun at a real issue, losing socks.
Overall: Fun and enjoyable.
