Abbey House Abbotsbury Weddings are fixtures in the calendar that I particularly look forward to.
Effortlessly run by the venues dedicated team – the setting is spectacular, with it having a location second to none, The epitome of the Dorset countryside, with rolling hills surrounding the village and the historical St Catherines Church, perched on the hillside overlooking their outdoor ceremony area.
An Abbey House Wedding
Betty and Phil’s day was a new experience for me, working at the venue for the first time. Something I delight in, having fresh eyes, and a fresh environment within which to work. No referench points, no expected images to replicate or improve upon. A simple opportunity to capture the energy & the emotion, with what is given freely and to artistically create lasting imagery of the environment and the people.
My day of Abbey House Abbotsbury Weddings started in Cerne Abbas at the family home, capturing the final stages of bridal preparations with Betty and her bridesmaids. Within the attic conversion of a beautiful Dorset cottage, bathed in natural light, everything laid out neatly, purposely and oh so conveniently for capturing some beautiful imagery.
A quick spin down to the local pub to intercept Phil and his groomsmen, adding their buttonholes on the boot of their chosen transport – a rather sleek Aston Martin. Lovely for a gifted engineer to take full advantage of his employers flagship product!
All in hand, and the scene setting pictures done, it was a scenic drive over to Abbotsbury and the wedding venue – The Abbey House.
Here the gathering friends and family convened on the lawns before being led down the terraced garden to the ceremony area. A pergola, with a cool jazz band positioned to one side, setting the scene with some laid back summer tunes. Palm tress bristling in the gentle breeze and an ancient chapel on the over looking hillside. Things couldn’t be better!
A beautiful ceremony, with Betty’s father leading her down the aisle, a few tears being shed, and some touching readings by both mothers.
Post ceremony, the band relocated to the upper terrace & continued to play whilst guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on the lawns. For the evening everyone took their places in the marquee for the sit down meal, wedding breakfast speeches and the evening ahead partying.
Some great moments captured throughout, along with a very entertaining impromptu dance off competition.
A wedding day that I am particularly fond of, for its energy along with the memories captured. An early outing for the new Fuji XT-1 camera system, putting it well and truly through its passes with an Abbey House Abbotsbury Wedding and it passing with flying colours!
