A Visit to South Lakes Safari Zoo

A few weeks ago, I went on a little trip over to South Lakes Safari Zoo for the day. It was overcast, foggy and quite chilly, but a change of scenery is always a good idea, especially when there's baby animals to coo over!

Baby Jaguars are the cutest animals I may have ever seen. Just look at that little tongue! The two cubs were only three months old when I took these photos; very playful and yet to grow into their big paws.

South Lakes might be quite small, but it's got a few redeeming features you don't get at some of the bigger zoos. There's an enclosure you can walk through, where you're beside lemurs and a range of birds, plus some wallabys if you look closely - they tend to hide out of the way, behind the safety of the trees. There's the opportunity to hand feed some of the animals too, like the giraffes. I would've given it a go, but considering what I'd just seen the giraffe doing prior to feeding time, I changed my mind and thought better of the hygiene risk! I love giraffes though and I'm always taken aback by just how incredible they are; their height, the way they move and that foot long blue tongue!

South Lakes Zoo offers reduced entry during the winter months and it's well worth visiting if you can. During the rest of the year it's around £15 each to visit. It was a lovely day out and great to give my Dad's latest G lens a go, the detail on the shots of the jaguars is really impressive.

Are you a fan of zoos? Which animals do you like to see?
