“It’s far more satisfying to give new life to an old object than to just pick something from a catalog,” says Kathryn Tyler, an interior designer based in the UK. For over a decade, Tyler has been scouring and collecting vintage finds from local thrift stores and websites. The dining room in Tyler's home in Falmouth, England, plucked from our Interior Design issue, is a shining example that holds the designer's bric-à-brac—a trio of black bowls and a $30 three-pieced wooden table surrounded by a set of 1950s Carl Jacobs Jason chairs Tyler snagged on eBay for $400. A graphic Ellsworth Kelly poster mounted on the painted white brick wall ($3!), brings a little color into the otherwise neutral room.
