Planting trees in Peneda-Gerês National Park wasn’t my idea, but I was made aware of the event by Oporto Adventure Tours from a mutual contact and I jumped at the chance — even if it meant Casa Aguiar waking up rather early on a Sunday morning. It was worth it, though: Ice was in his element (almost completely off-leash), we had a nature day, and I got to see some new places.
The call for tree-planting was answered by enough people that the job was completed very quickly, which gave us the rest of the afternoon to explore at leisure. Here’s a selection of pictures I shot from the mountainside, feeling slightly guilty that I wasn’t planting anything and just taking pictures (if there were fewer people, I would’ve done more planting and less shooting, I swear!):
A little videoclip of the view and Ice the Sentinel Dog.
The following pictures are a few from the afternoon around the national park after the planting was over. I have many more from the rest of the day, but I’ll put them in separate posts as the pictures get edited.
São Bento da Porta Aberta has the second-largest sanctuary in Portugal after Fátima (it’s to the left of this building)
