I have done many 'dream home' and 'home décor wish list' style posts (and will probably continue to do so…) but I thought it was about time I gave you a peek into what our house actually looks like. It is my no means finished or my perfect house but we are working with what we have got!
The living room is probably my favorite room of the house because it is the most finished room of the house so far. I love my dark, rustic furniture and originally wanted the whole house in my beloved Moroccan theme however I soon realised after a trip to Myakka, that it was going to be an expensive project!
Warren's mom did very kindly treat us to the Hathi coffee table from Myakka though. I adore elephants and lust over all the Hathi furniture so I'm very grateful for that and love it being in the center of the room. There is no center piece or décor on it because no matter what it was, it would be Sienna's favourite toy!
To stick with the dark theme, we have 2 large, dark, leather sofas. As lovely as fabric sofas and chairs are, they are just not practical when you have children (or clumsy boyfriends..!). They are so much easier to wipe down although I do find myself still losing hours while looking at pretty patterned ones on websites like Rodgers of York. Maybe when Sienna (and the next baby..) is older, I can upgrade to a prettier sofa? Although unfortunately, I don't think there is any hope that Warren will become less clumsy…
The main colours of the room are red, black and neutrals. I feel the red is still tying in with the Moroccan theme but the neutrals and black gives it a more contemporary feel too. I love words and quotes and so that is also a theme as you can see from the cushions and storage boxes. I think it's important to remind yourself what you have and what you are grateful for everyday and seeing these everyday help me do that :)
We have our mirror above the sofa that I have shared with you before and then on the opposite wall, we have my cabinet. When we got this at a car bootsale I had a vision to paint it a nice dark red and distress it, but as you can see, I never got round to it! I know it is probably the top of a dresser and 'missing' the bottom half as everyone likes to point out, but I love it and am on the hunt for some kind of boxes or baskets to fit along the bottom to store blankets and books. On top, I have my candles, lamp and photo display of my favourites!
We still have a few bits I'd like to get for this room like a new TV stand and maybe a tall cabinet/bookcase for behind the door, but for now, I'm quite happy with it. We do need some new wall art as well though, we have quite a lot of white space on the walls!
I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into our home and are looking forward to the next one!
