The Anuradhapura Sathosa Warehouse Manager who was arrested by the Police after a long preliminary investigation in connection with a case of alleged fraud relating to a stock of Nadu and Samba rice worth about Rs.60 million was ordered to be remanded until January 5 by the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Nalaka Jayasuriya.
Earlier, the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate had issued two travel bans to the Katunayake and Mattala International Airport immigration controllers to prevent the female suspect from traveling abroad.
Police told the Court that the money required for the import of the rice stock had been given to Sathosa by the Treasury and accordingly the relevant rice stock was imported to Sri Lanka between October 29, 2021 and June 23, 2022. Out of the imported rice, the Anuradhapura Sathosa warehouse had received a rice stock to the above value.
Police informed the Court that the involvement of the Anuradhapura Sathosa Warehouse Manager in the alleged fraud connected to this stock of rice has been revealed in the ongoing preliminary investigations.
