The Magpie was one of my favourite books the year I read it. Lucy Newton is a brilliant villain and I've often wondered if there was any more to her story. So I was looking forward to reading this. A Murder of Magpies is well written and entertaining it doesn't quite live up to its potential and events in the novella are rather contrived. It was sad to see Jamie still obsessed with Lucy several years after the nightmare. His obsession ended his marriage, yet I struggled to really sympathise with him. I wanted to shake him and give him a good slap to wake him up. Also, I found the events were pretty contrived and obvious. I was suspicious from the moment Jamie is contacted by a woman claiming to be Lucy's next victim. The events the novella from this moment on held no surprises for me. I found this a bit disappointing.
