A Long Weekend In Galicia

By Gail Aguiar @ImageLegacy

We’re back late from spending the May 1st long weekend in Galicia, with meal stops in Portugal — Valença on the way there and Esposende on the way back. The weekend was a spontaneous mix of rural and urban tourism, nature, and medieval sites. We made no accommodation plans, and ended up staying in a rustic place that was the former town police station and jail. We liked it so much we stayed both nights!

Some quick notes from the weekend:

  • Santiago de Compostela is bigger than I’d expected;
  • I was on a mission in Padrón specifically to eat pimentos padrón, but the season doesn’t start until mid-May (drat! just two more weeks!);
  • Galicia was chilly! Thankfully, I brought wool socks.
