Having read excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and highly recommended by Tommy, I couldn't wait to try out Juju's food. Juju's cafe is all about serving fresh local sourced ingredients cooking up the best of traditional English cuisine. It's location is not far off by the surroundings of Birmingham's well recognised Broad Street, Brindley Place - the canal and the NIA. Not also are they passionate about serving great food, they also provide superb service from the owner herself & the team.
Juju's interior - The bar area.
Lightly spiced fishcake £5.99 (with lemon mayo & pea puree)
A couple of us had ordered this - enjoyable starter; loved that it didn't consist of too much potato.
Garlic Mushrooms £4.99 (in a creamy sauce, served on a toasted Brioche)
Miss Le complimented that it was very flavorsome and the brioche was toasted perfectly and soft in the center.
Juju's home cooked spiced Nacho's £7.99 (served with grated cheese & sour cream and chilli beef / chilli bean)
Not your ordinary nacho's! look at the size of them tortilla's! great for 2 people sharing, didn't get to try this (come on would you really wanna share :p) but looks amazing. Definitely need to try this on my next visit!
Juju's 'home cured' hot salt beef £10.99 (Brioche, hot salt beef, coleslaw, white cabbage, gherkins & carrots w/ house gravy &twice cooked chips)
A New York inspired dish, it definitely looks like one of them mouth watering dishes you always see on the Food Network Channel drool. The birthday girl reviewed that it was well seasoned & yummy.
Juju's Hash £10.99 (crushed potato with a medley of mature cheddar cheese, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, topped with two eggs & mushroom ketchup)So much tasteful ingredients in here, yet again I didn't get to try this but it does look rather filling and appetizing! I think this is also on the Breakfast & Lunch menu too :)
Homemade beef burger £7.99 (served with brioche bun, salad, melted mature cheddar, and real ale fruit chutney & twice cooked chips) Sounds pretty original and simple on the menu, but you should've gathered by now that at juju's they like to exceed your expectations on something so ordinary. My guest was taken by surprise at how big the beef burger was & struggled to finish off the chips. lol.
Almond Butter baked whole Trout £13.99 (with a warm salad of new potatoes, green & broad beans) I've seen fish & chips served in paper and newspaper but, not like this! presentation on this is really creative - love it. Even better that its served with the healthy options of green beans and broad beans and new potatoes. Also, on my list for my next visit *sigh*
Matured Scottish 'rib eye' steak £19.99 (served with chips, mushrooms, grilled tomato & salad)
I l o v e Steak. So, off course this was my option. the steak was tender and juicy, well seasoned along with my chosen peppercorn sauce. However, I must say this didn't wow me as much as the other dishes. You could say this is one of the more traditional dishes. I did enjoy it though & cleared my plate =)
Soup of the Day - Lamb stew with beans in a tomato based soup. (sorry if I'm wrong!)
A very warming starter, the lamb was absolutely delicious & tender - great for a rainy day!
Pan seared fillet of Scottish Salmon £12.99 (served with spring onion, crushed new potato, with a choice of sweet chilli / hollandaise sauce)
I've never thought of combining Salmon and sweet chilli before, but it complimented the salmon very well.
Home baked cupcakes £2.50 (baked to impress) Yummy home baked goodness! love that Jujuadd's your personal touch on these cupcakes, it matched the Birthday girl's outfit! And as, Juju says "0 calories when eaten with your eyes closed" :D
