Guillermo del Toro has signed a multi-year partnership with Netflix, and two projects are now in the works. As of early 2022, below is a list of all of his ongoing TV and film projects set to air on Netflix in the future years.

Netflix and del Toro struck an output pact in August 2020 to create new content for the streaming service.

Pinocchio

Netflix will release the film in December 2022.

The forthcoming Netflix film Pinocchio is based on Gris Grimly’s 2002 graphic novel of the same name, as we revealed in our thorough preview of Guillermo del Toro’s stop motion animated Pinocchio. This is a darker twist on the conventional narrative, as seen by the novel’s artwork.

Pinocchio, like the famous Disney cartoon, will be a musical. But forget about singing birds and a puppetry chorus: Nick Cave, the British rock star, is composing the soundtrack for this one.

Here’s what del Toro has stated thus far about the film:

“This isn’t a Pinocchio for everyone in the family.” [It’s] a political picture, after all. Do the arithmetic on Pinocchio during Mussolini’s climb to power. During the development of fascism, I was a puppet.”

Due to the time-consuming nature of stop motion animation, fans of del Toro will be aware that this film has taken a long time to make. The film has been in development since 2015.

A number of well-known actors have also contributed their voices to the film. Tilda Swinton, Ewan McGregor, Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, and John Turturro are among the cast members. Gregory Mann, a newcomer, voices the boy-puppet himself, while Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard also contributes his voice.

Cabinet of Curiosities

Netflix’s launching date is expected to be around 2023.

This eight-episode anthology horror series, formerly known as Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight, was ordered in May 2018. The series’ production began in late 2021 and is expected to last through 2022. Ben Barnes, Rupert Grint, Andrew Lincoln, Tim Blake Nelson, Luke Roberts, and many others have already joined the cast. “A horror anthology,” according to the series’ description, is a “collection of stories that are both equally intelligent and terrifying.”
