See, I keep telling you lot that my mate Rupe is a very nice man! Here's why - a film has just been released in the last few days called A Late Quartet which has received 'a chorus of approval' from the critics. Oh hell, I thought, that means traveling to down-town Yeovil, a fate close to being as bad as death, parking in the giant Cineworld carpark and facing the risk of frostbite trying to reach the ticket office, paying more than the price of gold for a tub of ice cream and . . . well, you get the idea. But then, I noticed in my excellent Daily Mail TV guide (absolutely the best on the market!) that my mate Rupe was offering it on pay-to-view. Given that the film was only about seven days old I could hardly believe it but it was true and tonight I watched it from the comfort of my own armchair which, unlike Cineworld seats, I could be confident was definitely clear of chewing gum, and when a pal telephoned I just pressed my trusty 'do-flicker-thingie' and froze the film until I was ready to go again! Now here is the important bit - look do wake up, this really is important! - you can only buy it on pay-to-view until this Sunday.
Is it worth it, I hear you yawn - YES, it bloody well is! It is a little diamond of a film, a grown-up film for grown-ups, tremendously well-acted and with music to die for. Here is the cast list:
- Philip Seymour Hoffman as Robert Gelbart
- Christopher Walken as Peter Mitchell
- Catherine Keener as Juliette Gelbart
- Mark Ivanir as Daniel Lerner
- Imogen Poots as Alexandra Gelbart
- Wallace Shawn as Gideon Rosen
- Anne Sofie von Otter as Miriam
