Who John (Builder) and Tyne (Beauty Therapy Tutor)
When 14th March 2015
Where Landsendt
Budget $25,000
When John moved to Auckland from the Hawkes bay when he was 16. I was good friends with his cousin Sam who he moved in with - there begins history.
Johns loving patience (he needs to demonstrate a whole lot of that with me)
Johns answer: One quality would be the way you love me, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Sounds corny but true.
In hindsight is there anything you could have done differently?
I can honestly say we wouldn't change a thing. Our venue did all the hard work for us and everything else we kept very simple yet beautiful.
Did you DIY? If so what did you do?
We did plenty of DIY'ing and this is where we were able to stick to our budget.
John's sister Cherie made big batches of Russian Fudge, Coconut ice and Rocky road which we put in a simple brown bag, doily on top and a small peg to hold it all together. So simple, so cute and so yum.
I tried looking EVERYWHERE for some lace table runners to further set the mood in the reception marquee, and could find any that were what I had in mind so I gave John's mum Karen a call and recruited some more help. She found a beautiful heavy lace which she hand cut into table runners. They looked absolutely amazing and set our romantic and elegant theme off.
In three words describe your wedding style...
Romantic - Simplistic - Elegant
What were your save and splurge items for your wedding?
We definitely splurged on the venue - once we saw Landsendt, there was no going back. We were willing to pay any price for such a beautiful venue, which meant we didn't have to go overboard on many other details. My dress was another splurge item. Lisa H Design brought my dream dress to life. I say it was a splurge item but it was so reasonably priced, just John thought it was a splurge item.
We saved on florist costs- by buying all our flowers from a wholesalers and putting my mums eye for arrangements to the test (Bouquets, bridal table centerpiece etc.) She did an amazing job and saved us a whole lot of money. Also made a massive saving on having a good friend and my mum make a cake each.
Where did you go for you honeymoon and why?
We went up north to the Kari Kari Peninsula. Its beautiful up there and basically like New Zealands Fiji.
We stayed 3 nights at Rangiputa (A beautiful and secluded beach) Was perfect for just completely relaxing and enjoying our first days of being married together.
We then did 3 nights at a resort called Carringtons (Definitely the luxurious part of the honeymoon) From the food to the infinity pool and the golf course we felt so spoilt.
Do you have any tips or tricks for engaged couples?
Take everything as it comes. Its never going to go all perfect so just try as much as possible to relax and sometimes plan B will just have to do.
On your wedding day after all the stress is over and all speeches are done etc. Take a moment with your new Wife/ Husband, grab a drink and go for a little walk together. Try find a spot where you can stand back and look at your wedding party. Its an awesome feeling seeing all your loved ones having a good time on your special day. Also its nice to take a moment and have a quick 5min together, because surprisingly you don't get to do much of that on the day.
What do you love most about being married?
Being with your bestie everyday, knowing that you're both committed and in it for the long haul.
