A Good Book for Sailors Heading Offshore

By Sailingguide

Winter's always a good time for reading and becoming reacquainted with old friends on one's bookshelves. Recently I found myself browsing through Offshore Sailing by Bill Seifert and Daniel Spurr, a classic small book full of great tips and boat modifications for any sailor going offshore or even on an extended coastal cruise. What I like best is its really practical focus on the many things a do-it-yourself boat owner can do, from small improvements to essential major things, to improve safety and comfort when cruising. Its experience-based tips are things that really work, not merely repeating the conventional wisdom we hear so often but that may not be true or practical. If you haven't read it, check out the fuller review here.
