A Few DIY Inspirations

By Heather @home_modern

In the spirit of my Spring Cleaning Challenge I’ve identified a couple of items around the house that we need to “use” or “lose.” They both have potential, so I thought I’d share some DIY ideas I have to revamp them (if we “use” them).

My first DIY inspiration is this metallic screen that looks like it’s been gold and/or silver-leafed. It’s from the bedroom of Laura Vincent Poole’s house (which I’ve stalked before here). It makes a stunning but simple statement in the corner of the bedroom.

A while ago I got this plain canvas screen for a project and didn’t end up using it. To get the look above it could be gold-leafed using those larger, overlapping gold leaf squares. I also really like the idea of something like this, from Oh Joy!’s baby nursery. These large  metallic dots are sophisticated, yet fun and would be great in a small dose on a folding screen.

My second DIY inspiration is this dip-dyed stool from Serena & Lily. Dip-dyed furniture is everywhere, but I think it’s such a great way to modernize something rustic.

We have two of these branch side tables that got a few years ago from Target. They would be a great candidate for a dip-dye, maybe even in a hot color like mint!

What do you think–”use” or “lose”? Are they worth the effort?

XO,

Heather
