A Detail-filled Real Wedding at Fazeley Studios

By Claire

Today’s wedding blog is all about Esme and Graeme, who were married in June at the very charming Fazeley Studios in the heart of Birmingham. Fazeley is a unique wedding venue, gorgeous on the inside as you’re about to see, and with tons of potential for all kinds of weddings. Esme and Graeme’s wedding has so many lovely details you’re bound to take ideas for your big day from this post.

The photography is by John Charlton, who is based at Fazeley Studios (he loved it that much!). Esme and Graeme have told me a little about their day — I hope you enjoy their story!

A real wedding blog from Fazeley Studios, Birmingham

The bride and groom: Esme and Graeme

Who proposed, and how?

Graeme proposed at the very top of the Empire State Building in New York at night. However, we were soon distracted by a peregrine falcon nesting on the building… we are easily distracted!

Wedding venue: Fazeley Events, Digbeth, Birmingham

Wedding photographer: John Charlton Photography

How would you describe your wedding style? Relaxed and fun.

Religious or civil wedding? … Civil

What readings did you choose? …None, we decided to keep it brief!

The wedding reception:

What were your highlights?

It has to be seeing the children diving in to their gift boxes at the wedding breakfast. It was a last minute touch but really worthwhile. The little gifts helped amuse the kids over dinner and really made them feel special as each box had been individually personalised.

Venue styling and details:

Fazeley is a sleek, clean venue with amazing light and furnishings, so we didn’t need to do much, but we choose flowers that had a vintage feel for both the ceremony and wedding breakfast and some personalised bags of chocolate gems for each guest.

Music and entertainment:

Nimbus, a harp and flute duo played at the wedding breakfast – they were amazing and really set a calm mood over dinner.

We had a DJ (Steward Sherman) for the reception – he played some great disco tunes which kept us all dancing until midnight.

What did you wear?

Esme wore a Suzanne Neville ‘Saran’ dress, a wrap by Joyce Jackson and Rachel Simpson Mimi shoes in silver blue. Esme’s jewellery was all custom-made by Laurel Lime.

Graeme wore a 3-piece navy blue suite from TM Lewin and a pink tie from Hawes and Curtis.

Memorable wedding day moments:

The hilarious registrar who made the ceremony so much fun (we didn’t stop laughing!).

Wedding day advice:

Get some great people on board to help you. The venue, our photographer and cake lady were all amazing and they really understood what we were trying to achieve with our day.

Knowing that we had ‘clicked’ with our main suppliers really took the pressure off. The key bit of advice is to keep calm and enjoy! Everyone says that the day will fly by, and it does!
