One of the most awesome experiences I’ve ever had was to attend a special media preview of LEGOLAND Malaysia before it opens to the public. Being surely one of the first Filipinos to be in the park, I made sure I had happy stories to bring back home. Read more…
LEGOLAND Malaysia, the newest theme park in the region, is the first of its kind in Asia and only the sixth in the world. Located in Nusajaya, Johor, Malaysia, it is accessible from both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, which are both vital air hubs in Asia.
My day started at the Singapore Flyer where our friends from LEGOLAND Malaysia and WTS Travel were waiting to take us with their shuttle buses that will start regular operations on the public opening. In the bus were other media with families in tow. We all were excited!
After a little over an hour and some border formalities, the bus was already at the parking lot. We were told that they were expecting two thousand people to be in the preview. That may seem a lot, but that’s nothing compared to fifteen thousand, the number of people LEGOLAND Malaysia can handle at any one time.
THE BEGINNING
I already got my special preview day ticket, and I was ready to see LEGOLAND Malaysia for the first time. But before getting into the park, of course I had to take photos at the gate.
The Beginning is, obviously, the first zone in the park and where the fun begins. Aside from the grand entrance gate, there is also The Big Shop that offers a largest selection of LEGO toys in Asia. A good advice is to bring lots of money with you because you might end up wanting almost all of the LEGO sets inside, like I did.
It was a hot day in Johor Bahru, so I was just relieved to find an ice cream section at The Café later in the day. For the preview everyone received 30% off on food and beverage, so my two scoops of ice cream came to just 7 MYR from the regular 10 MYR.
LEGO TECHNIC
LEGO Technic is the zone for high-speed rides and high-tech LEGO. Its highlight is Project X, a roller coaster with a steep switchback track. With more twists and turns than any other ride in the park, it takes riders on a wild ride 18 meters above the ground.
An exciting water ride is the Aquazone Wave Racers. Twelve wave racers whizzing in their circular tracks will have to dodge the four water guns fired by spectators.
The Technic Twister has 12 colorful LEGO pods that can take 60 people at a time on a whirlwind ride. Everyone gets to control how crazy their ride will be by spinning a wheel.
The LEGO Mindstorms workshop allows potential robot makers to design the future from LEGO bricks, while the LEGO Academy turns dream LEGO designs into reality.
