A Chic English Garden Wedding at Home

By Claire

There’s an unusual story to introduce this real wedding with — Matt had discovered wedding photographer Jonny Draper at Rebecca’s brother’s wedding last year, and the whole thing began with a phone call even before the proposal… Jonny himself picks up the story:

“What a wedding. It was just perfect. The amazing weather smack bang in the middle of a run of rain, thunder, fire and brimstone (it felt like it a few times!) and the most perfect couple. Bex and Matt.

I’ve known Bex & Matt for a couple of years now. Last year I photographed Bex’s brother’s wedding – Ben & Jordana. Bex was one of Jordy’s gorgeous bridesmaids. I also photographed Catherine & Richard’s wedding last year. Bex was one of Catherine’s gorgeous bridesmaids. Matt was starting to feel the pressure…!!!

I had a phone call from Matt last year which is the best phone call I’ve ever had from a groom (although I didn’t know he was one of my grooms at that exact moment…)

Matt: “Hi Jonny, it’s Matt”

Me: “Hi Matt, how’s it going?”

Matt: “Great thanks – listen, I’m going to propose to Bex next week and I wanted to check your availability to shoot our wedding next year before I do!”

That is an awesome phone call to get. I’ve known Matt’s family for a few years now, his gorgeous Mum, Sally, used to work at Flower Design and I’d done some family photographs for them in the past and what with shooting Ben and Jordana’s wedding last year and meeting her family then, I was sooooooooooooo excited about being involved in this wedding. I knew practically all the guests too!”

There’s so much more to share with you and I’m excited to show you today’s wedding. Rebecca and Matt had a church wedding and a gorgeous party at home. Rebecca’s dress is a custom design by Stewart Parvin; her shoes are Louboutins. There’s a brilliant little scene with a farmer (who gets a kiss!) and the most amazingly colourful flowers and table centrepieces. Oh! And watch out for the kiddies’ wedding favours — they’re fantastic!

All photos are by the lovely Jonny Draper.

Rebecca and Matt’s colourful English garden wedding

Who proposed, and how?

We went on a walk that we go on quite often, when we got to the top I turned around and Matt was on one knee! I loved it because it’s a special place for both of us and somewhere we can keep going back to.

Wedding venue: St.Cuthberts Church Lytham & the garden of my parents house (Rebecca’s)

Wedding photographer: Jonny Draper (Our wedding date was booked around his availability http://www.jonnydraper.co.uk/

Which readings did you choose? Marriage by Glenda Wilm, On Your Wedding Day (Author unknown) & Colossians 3 v 12–17

The wedding reception:

What were your wedding highlights?

Spending the day with everyone we love, the speeches and the total luck of the beautiful sunny weather!

Wedding venue styling and details:

We collected loads of little bits and pieces that we liked throughout the year and spent the day and night before setting everything out! Weirdly it was not stressful at all the day before I had so much fun spending time with my bridesmaids making things!

Wedding music and entertainment:

We had a local guy Ash Parkinson playing the guitar whilst everyone arrived which was perfect background music. In the evening we had The Deadbeats who were AMAZING and DJ Dave Dennison who kept the party going long into the night!

What did you wear?

Bride: Stewart Parvin (An amazing experience, I got to meet him and try on all the new collection, he also makes recommendations and in my case some small changes to the original design to make it exactly what I wanted & a one off)

Groom: Suits we hired from Slaters

Memorable wedding day moments:

Doing our vows in church, we memorised them and it made it very special. Also getting in the car after the service and being able to relax with each other.

Wedding day advice:

Keep calm!! If something doesn’t work on the day or if you run over on time don’t worry just go with it. As long as you are both happy everyone else will be…… After all they are all there because they love you!
