If you have a typical 9-5 job it means that you spend at least eight hours of your day sitting at your desk. Eight hours. When you really think about it, that's more time than you spend at home. Personally, I go to bed around 11 pm. Between blogging events and life in general I get to home between 7:00 and 8:00 pm most week nights. I wake up between 6:45 and 7:00 am. and leave between 8:00 and 8:15 am. So that's a maximum of four hours in the evening and an hour and a half in the morning. This means only six and a half hours of my day are spent at home .
Since I spend more time at the office than I do at home I have found it essential to have beauty and hygiene products on deck to get me to through the day. I do not have the many luxuries of home, but I like to feel comfortable during the day. For me looking and feeling my very best is essential to that comfort
What's at Lex's Desk:
Lotion
It's like every office conspired to buy the same terrible soap. It is drying and leaves your hands feeling like sand paper. Having lotion is a must. Also, I have a darker complexion. I'm being real when I say getting ashy happens. It is a fact that I have come to accept and embrace.
Hand Sanitizer
If you ride any form of public transportation this is imperative. The amount of germs on pretty much anything you touch is too gross to even think about. Yes, you could also go wash your hands as soon as you get in the office, but we discussed the soap already so...
Anti-Frizz Serum/Hairspray
My hair is extremely textured so the slightest big of humidity can lead to disastrous results. Having anti-frizz serum on hand is beyond necessary. I rarely use hairspray, but I like to have it on hand for the rare chance that I need it.
Body Spray
I put on perfume that pretty much lasts through out the day, but sometimes when I am rushing to get out of the door I will forget. On those days I like to keep some body spray on hand. Having a fresh light scent is very important to me even if I'm the only person who notices.
Deodorant
Sometimes the odds really are not in my favor and I forget to put on deodorant. It's rare, but it happens. I like to keep a travel deodorant on hand for those days. Also with the weather warming up, it is good to have on hand so that I can freshen up as needed during the day. We all know that a warm day can make even the sweetest smelling person a bit frowzy.
Lint Roller
This is another thing that I really just use as needed. Sometimes you don't notice lint on that super chic black dress before your leave the house. Rather than being self conscious all day you can just nip the problem in the bud right away.
Highlighter/Blush
My makeup lasts all day. I am very particular in the products I use to ensure that happens. The only thing that occasionally wears away is my highlighter and blush. If I am just heading home I will just leave it, but if I have after work plans I like to touch up. Usually I will bring a small makeup bag with me when I know I have something, but there are those times that I forget or a last minute event pops up. That is when having this makeup comes in handy.
Mouthwash
I don't need to explain why I have mouthwash at my desk. It is just good to have.
Large Water Bottle
I hate refilling those small cups over and over again so that usually leads to me not drinking enough water. As previously mentioned, water has so many benefits. It is important to drink as much as you can.
Most of the products that I use are travel size so they do not take up that much space on my desk or in my drawer. With the exception of the lotion, the majority of these products go unused on a daily basis. It is nice to know that when I need them they are there though. Let's be honest, until we retire our desk really is like a second home (whether you are working for yourself or someone else). Your desk essentials may differ from mine, but every girl should have a few things at her desk to make her space feel a little more like home.
