7 Books I Read Before Seeing the Film

Today is World Book Day so thought I would combine books to the big screen and list 7 books I read before watching the film. I used to read quite a bit when I had to commute to work on public transport, but when your travel to work is driving yourself in a car it makes it a lot harder to read. But I have managed to read a few books before the film was even thought about or before it was released.

I haven’t put this classic in the list but I did read it before the film as it was a book we read at school. So I guess somethings are very good at school, a classic book and a classic film all in English lessons!

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Even though I had the books after becoming obsessed with the first film, it took me until after Two Towers to read the books. So I had managed to read Return of the King before the film came out!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Unfortunately even though I was the key age when the first Potter book was released I just didn’t bother, something I regret now. As with LOTR I managed to catch up before the final film was released.

The Notebook

I must have been living in a cave as did not see the film when everyone was going on about it, so found myself reading and falling involve with the story in the book first and then watching the film and falling in love with it all over again.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This is probably the one I am most proud of on the list, as I actually bought this book twice by accident of course. I done a deal one day of getting it cheap when buying The Times newspaper. Which must have been when the book was very first released, it is a difficult read at times but worth the effort.

Dear John

I literally finished reading this book the day before going to see the film, the film is actually awful but the book is heartbreaking. So heartbreaking and emotional that I actually had to stop reading when crying on public transport whilst reading it!

Twilight

I was recommend this by some friends at the time and yes I will admit that I fell for Edward Cullen in this first book. I didn’t make it to actually finishing the series giving up half way through Breaking Dawn when I eventually thought this is actually pathetic!

Fifty Shades of Grey

I was reading this when everyone was talking about it and also got right into it, as with Twilight though I never actually read the third and final book in the series. No idea why I have done that a few times!

So there it goes some books I read before the films were released. One thing is for sure that books are better than films, you might get some great adaptations but nothing can compare to what you mind creates for the characters. Mr Grey isn’t how I pictured him and the staircase in Return of the King is not how I imagined it.

What books have you been lucky enough to read before the films? What are your favorite books?
