Whether it’s during the scorching summer or the freezing winter, people are always looking for ways to save on energy costs. Here are a couple of apps that can help you reduce your energy so you can get the biggest bang for your buck.

Kill-Ur-Watts

This app keeps track of your energy consumption data over an extended period of time. Once it is ready, it will develop specific strategies on how your home can conserve energy. It provides you with charts and graphs that make it easy to view and read your carbon footprint. After you receive your energy score, challenge yourself to lower it as much as possible to help yourself save energy and money!

Green Outlet

This critically acclaimed app helps you figure out which appliances in your home use up the most energy. With this information, you’ll be able to make informed decisions about what you need to do with your high-energy consuming appliances. This will help you be more conscious about the appliances around your home in general. Additionally, once you enter some information in, the app will also help you calculate your average monthly cost. You can set up alerts that will let you know when you have exceeded the “recommended carbon usage” based on the U.S. Government Guidelines.

Energy Cost Calculator

The Energy Cost Calculator is n equation-based calculator that helps you quickly figure out your energy costs. Just punch in the necessary data to the best of your knowledge to receive an estimate. You can figure out the cost by day, week, month, and even yearly. This is an easy-to-use app with easy-to-understand results.

CodeGreen Energy

Curious about the energy efficiency of the building you’re in? CodeGreen Energy allows you to compare the energy efficiency of various buildings in your area. This is a great tool for people who are looking for a new building to operate out of. Just simply enter in an address to view the Energy Star score of the building at that location.

Light Bulb Finder

As funny as this may seem, this app is very useful. Once it gathers information about the light bulbs your currently use at home, it will give you recommendations about the best alternative light bulb for you based on money savings and environmental impact. It’ll even let you know where you can purchase said light bulb! Now you really have no excuse on why you can’t change out your light bulbs.

GasBuddy

This one strays away from your home energy conservation, but can be of much help. This app searches for the cheapest gas prices in your area. With gas prices constantly fluctuating, this app can prove itself to be very useful.

Alarm.com

The app from Alarm.com lets you control your home from anywhere in the world. Yes, it is a home security app, however, it also allows you to save immense amounts of energy through its remote features. You’ll be able to control any electrical appliance in your home. You’ll even be able to control your thermostat, too! Also, if you’re very conscious about your energy use, you can set special schedules for your appliances and thermostats. After using this app through my Stafford home security system, I’ve been able to save a lot of energy.
