If your home is a mess, then you may want to get rid of clutter and get organized. This is one of the most popular New Year's resolutions because it feels too difficult to do. However, there are simple ways to sort through your possessions so that you can have an organized home.

Six Getting Rid of Clutter Tips Tip 1: Choose a Time When You are Feeling Energized

Don't try to organize a home when you aren't feeling your best. It requires a lot of stamina to get rid of clutter. The process of sorting through your possessions is physically demanding, and if you aren't healthy, then you will give up the process quickly.

Tip 2: Prepare for the Process First

If you want to get rid of clutter, then prepare first by having food available along with hydrating beverages. You should have supplies available, such as trash bags, cardboard boxes and protective gloves.

Tip 3: All at Once or Only Part of a Home

When you have a smaller home, getting rid of all of the clutter at one time is a great way to get organized. However, if you have a huge house, then it can take several weeks to complete the job. Decide what type of schedule will work best for you and your own situation.

Tip 4: What Type of Clutter Is Bothering You the Most?

Determine what type of clutter is bothering you the most before beginning the job. If you have piles of paper clutter on a dining room, then you could begin with this sorting task. Alternatively, you may have a bedroom closet that is stuffed with items that are falling from the shelves.

Tip 5: Sort Things Quickly While Getting Rid of Clutter

You should sort through things quickly while getting rid of clutter. Glance at a piece of mail to determine if you can throw it away or if you should file it with other important paperwork.

Tip 6: Don't Retrieve Items from the Trash or the Cardboard Boxes

To get rid of the clutter, take the trash bags to a garbage dump quickly or transport unwanted items in a cardboard box to a charity shop. Avoid leaving the boxes or bags in your home so that you won't retrieve the items, leading to a cluttered home again.

Clean As You Get Rid of Clutter

As you get rid of the clutter on a table or in a closet, use a dust wand or a cloth to clean the area. This will make it easier to move other items into the empty space so that you can continue to organize. Within a few weeks, you will have a clutter-free home.
