Chicagoans thought things were getting better.
They thought the recent drop in homicides (in comparison with the 1st quarter of 2012) was a sign that something was working.
They thought leading the nation last year with 506 homicides was the tipping point.
They thought the media attention garnered after Hadiya Pendleton’s murder would change the tide.
Unfortunately, they thought wrong.
Jonylah’s father had some type of gang-related connections. That’s why police think he was shot at in broad daylight.
Revenge is what the assailants sought.
Tragedy is what they got.
Because a group of cowards decided to avenge whatever “trespasses” were supposedly committed towards them a baby girl is dead as a result.
Jonylah Watkins will never grow up.
She will never go to school.
She will never fall in love.
She will never have a family of her own.
I end my post with her picture once more. To those who committed this crime, I ask that you look at this baby girl. Look at her. And ask yourself one simple question:
Was it worth?
