6 Mistakes New Wedding Planners Make on Their Facebook Pages and How To Avoid Them

By Sharonhill @sharonhill

As a new wedding planner it’s important to have a Facebook page for your wedding planning business, one in which you will use to attract clients and establish yourself as an expert in your niche.

Many new planners set up a Page but they don’t do it properly and don’t do the things they need to do in order to capture the attention of the brides they want.

Here are 6 mistakes they make on their Pages and how you can avoid making the same ones:

Mistake #1 – They don’t show a photograph of themselves

Many new wedding planners don’t have a photo of themselves on their Page. Instead they place their logo or a photograph of a wedding symbol, such as wedding rings or a bridal bouquet, in the place where their picture should be.

You want brides to see what you look like so they can start to get to know you and like you. Use the same photo that is on your website, blog and LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest accounts so brides become familiar with your online presence.

Mistake #2 – They don’t give their name

Brides hire a person, not a company, let them know who you are by putting your name on your Page.

Mistake #3 – They don’t have a link to their website or blog

Post a link in the “About” area so brides can click through to your site and find out more about you.

Below is the “About” box that is under my photo on my Facebook Page. Notice it has a link to my blog and has my name.

Mistake #4 – They frequently pitch their services

If every other post is, “Contact me for a free consultation” or ” I’m a wedding planner and would love to help you plan your wedding,” brides will stop coming to your page and “unlike” you. Your page needs to offer information that is useful to your brides so they are anxious to see and read your posts.

Mistake #5 – They don’t make comments when they post photographs and links

When you upload photographs and post links, make comments about why you are sharing the information. Point out why the photograph would be of interest to them or why they might enjoy the article. Your thoughts and comments are what will help brides get to know you.

Mistake #6 – They don’t give proper credit when they post from other Pages and sites

Whenever you share a photo and/or article from another Facebook page or from a website, please give proper credit and don’t infringe on anyone’s copyrights.

Just yesterday I saw a wedding photograph on a new wedding planner’s Page that I saw a year ago on the photographer’s blog! The planner did not credit the photographer or post a link back to the photographer’s site. Please do not do this.

Don’t forget to put links to your Facebook Page on your website and blog so brides don’t miss it.
