6 Downsides of Selling Detox Drinks As A Business

Posted on the 09 June 2023 by Sandra @shvong1

The concept of detox diet has been around since the 1940s and rose to fame because of Stanley Burroughs' 'Master Cleanse Diet' business. In the early 2000s, detox drinks became popular again since the concept of reality TV shows became popular, where famous personalities share their health and wellness tips and use detox drinks to maintain their figures.

Fast forward to today, detox drinks are rising back to fame. Since more people are becoming conscious of their fitness and health, businesses relating to a better diet are rising again. Even though businesses market detox drinks as a healthy way to cleanse and detoxify a body, detox drinks have cons, too.

On top of that, many people have negative perceptions of detox drinks because of the unrealistic marketing businesses use for them. But regardless, they can still be a great business to start, especially if you have a specific target audience and have tasty recipes. In this post, let's look at the possible downsides of selling detox drinks as a business.

1 - Inconsistent income flow

Even though detox drinks are slowly rising to fame, their demand must remain consistent. The thing is, many people find it challenging to commit to a healthier lifestyle. As a result, businesses that cater to fitness and health have inconsistent income flows.

Aside from that, many believe that relying on detox drinks for eliminating body toxins is not as effective as marketers claim them to be. Because of that, many only try them once and never buy them again because they believe it's not as helpful as they expect it to be.

2 - Marketing them appropriately

Another downside of selling detox drinks as a business is how to market them appropriately. I mentioned that one of the reasons many have negative perceptions of detox drinks is because of the unrealistic marketing schemes businesses use for them. Many use deceiving taglines and claims for detox drinks, which is one of the reasons why people hold them accountable for unsatisfactory results.

Instead of doing what other businesses do, it's better to be realistic but creative in marketing detox drinks. Never use promising claims that won't deliver. Instead, focus on the results that people can expect with the help of proper nutrition and healthier habits.

3 - Ensuring your detox juices do not contain harmful bacteria

According to research, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission discovered that some detox drinks contain illegal and possibly harmful ingredients. It is critical, especially if you get your detox drinks from a supplier or manufacturer abroad or locally.

That's why before forming partnerships with suppliers or manufacturers, make it a habit to research, examine, and test the mixtures before selling them. Since detox drinks contain ingredients with high fibre, the tendency for its users to experience diarrhoea, stomach pains, and possible amoebiasis is high.

4 - Pricing them reasonably

Another downside of selling detox drinks as a business is the challenge of pricing them reasonably. One of the reasons many have negative perceptions about detox drinks aside from their unrealistic marketing tactics is their price. It is also why many refuse to continue and commit to a detox diet.

Even though most detox drinks are in powdered sachet mixtures, they can be expensive. One of the reasons is that businesses supply their detox drinks abroad or from suppliers that transport the drinks from long-distance travel. If you consider offering detox drinks in your business, reasonably pricing them can be challenging.

5 - Proving why they should use them instead of whole fruits and vegetables

Many businesses selling detox drinks argue why replacing your fruits and greens with detox drinks is better. Though detox drinks contain fruit and vegetable-based ingredients, consuming whole fruits and vegetables is still different.

Despite having fruits, nutrients, vitamins, and greens in detox mixtures, the nutrients of whole food are still more nutritious. If a client asks you why they should replace their fruits and greens with detox drinks, it might be challenging for you to defend why, considering the negative claims swarming online.

6 - Maintaining the business long-term

Lastly, maintaining a long-term detox drink business can be a challenge considering the past five downsides I discussed above. Even if you plan to operate your business online, managing your costs for the supplier of your detox mixtures, packaging, delivery, and employees will be affected.

If you're looking for a business that you can operate long-term and will be a reliable source of income, detox drinks may not be the best option, considering their demand, price, and satisfactory rate.

Despite these, detox drinks can be a great business if you market them wisely.

Overall, it's evident that the reason detox drinks have many negative claims is because of their unreliable marketing strategies. Even though detox drinks may not be as effective as businesses claim, they can provide additional help cleansing your body, especially for people with constipation.

The key is to market them by encouraging your target market that a balance of healthy diet, active lifestyle, and good sleep is the key to helping them reach their health and fitness goals quicker. Detox drinks are a cherry on top that could help them on that journey and not act as a replacement.
