5 Tips to Spruce Up Your House

By Kravelv

Is your house or apartment looking a little tired? Are you exhausted by excessive clutter or tired of your out-of-date accessories? While renovating or redecorating your home can seem like a massive undertaking, drastic means are not necessary. It’s actually quite simple to upgrade your space without spending much money or going to much effort, as long as you know what resources to rely on.

Even if you live with others or are only staying in your residence temporarily, there are still things you can do to make it a better living environment while you’re there. With the right tactics in place, you can spruce up your house so that it is more comfortable and visually pleasing for anyone who sets foot in it.

No matter what size home you live in and what interior style you prefer, these five tips can help you boost the appeal of your home in a pinch.

Repurpose old or unwanted items

Do you have old tins, mugs or bottles lying around? Turn them into pen holders or vases. You can even add some decoupage if you’d like to truly transform their look. If you have figurines lying around, paint them all one color and display them on a shelf. If you’re sick of your lampshade, add some custom stitching, trim or other design. DIY initiatives are the perfect way to add some flair to an otherwise boring space.

Update your window coverings

Old-fashioned window coverings are a tell-tale sign that your home is dated. Window fixtures that don’t allow for much natural light can also cause your home to feel pretty sad. We recommend that you swap your current fixtures out for something that’s both timeless and allows for lots of natural light, like a nice wooden or aluminum plantation shutter. They can be altered to suit the amount of sunlight and air you want to let through, and they are durable enough to last for years.

Add plants

Sometimes, some foliage is all a room needs to quite literally breathe some new life into it. The addition of a few native Australian house plants or flowers are an optimal way to bring the outdoors in. Plants will not only spruce up your home, but also help promote health within your property (thanks to improved air quality) and easily provide you with a much more polished look. For some extra oomph, place plants in fashionable pots that match your home.

Invest in some high-quality storage

When you have lots of assets lying around but can’t bear to get rid of them, storing them smartly is the next best option. These days, there are tons of stylish trunks, drawers, bins and shelves on the market that can organize your space and hide and house your goods while looking nice from the outside. Whether you need to store clothes, CD’s, books, memorabilia, or anything else that tends to accumulate in masses, there are tons of vessels out there that fit the bill.

Repaint the walls

This does not require a whole paint job. Perhaps just an accent wall would be enough to update any rooms in your home that feel a bit uninspired. Colours that pop, such as yellows, reds and oranges, are especially advantageous, although cooler colours such as light blues, greens and purples can also be nice. The choice is yours depending on what best suits your overall color scheme and design.

Whether you are renting or you own your house, there’s no excuse not to make your residence exactly what you want it to be. If you are living somewhere, whether it be in the short or long-term, you deserve for that space to meet your standards. These tips are here to help you work towards those standards and spruce up your residence.
