Pet separation anxiety can be a big problem when it comes time to go back to school. It's important to pay close attention to your pet and make sure the problems don't get any worse during this time. With these methods, you can help your pet recover from pet separation anxiety.

1. Check With A Doctor

If your pet is exhibiting strange behavior, it might be best to check with a doctor before assuming the problem is separation anxiety. Your doctor will be able to affirm that there aren't any underlying medical problems that are causing your pet's behavior.

2. Lots Of Exercise

Giving your pet plenty of exercise before your kid leaves for school can tire him out so he doesn't feel as restless during the day. Exercise will also decrease stress to encourage good behavior and lessen anxiety.

3. Being Alone Is A Good Thing

For your pet to feel more comfortable alone, he'll need to associate being alone with good things. To do this, try giving him a toy with treats in it that he can chew on while you or your kids are gone at school. That way, he'll associate the kids leaving with having a nice treat, which will hopefully reduce his anxiety.

4. Start Gradually

If possible, start leaving your pet alone on a gradual basis before it's time to go back to school. This way, your pet can get used to it gradually, and hopefully be able to handle separation a little bit better. You can start with 5 minutes, then 30, then 1 hour. With any luck, your pet will have no problem being alone for long periods of time.

5. Tackle Pre-departure Anxiety

Sometimes a pet's anxiety will start as soon as you start getting ready to leave. This is called pre-departure anxiety. Sometimes it will help to get ready to leave without actually leaving. For instance, you could try putting your shoes on and then sitting down to watch T.V.

With these methods, your pet should feel a little more comfortable when you're not around. Do you have any methods to help your pets with separation anxiety during the school season? If so, feel free to share!
