Beautiful, young looking healthy skin is a goal we all want to achieve; but it can be easier said than done. There are many factors that go into the health of your skin, and you will have to pay attention to each if you want your skin looking its best.

Here are five simple tips to get beautiful and healthy skin.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

A lifetime of sun exposure can cause irreparable damage to the skin – as well as increase the risk of skin cancer. For complete sun protection:
» Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
» Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
» Wear protective clothing and accessories.

Treat Your Skin Gently

Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin. To keep it gentle:
» Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm – rather than hot – water.
» Avoid strong soaps. Irritants in traditional soaps can cause dryness, contact dermatitis, inflammatory acne and throw off the delicate pH balance your skin maintains for both face and body. Always choose mild cleansers and body washes.
» Pat dry. After bathing or washing, gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel so that some moisture remains in the skin.
» Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Food provides life to your skin. A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. To keep it glowing:
» Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
» Have whole grains and lean proteins. Eggs, lean meat, oysters and cereals supply a good mount of zinc and iron to your body that imparts that much wanted celeb like glow.
» A diet rich in vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates, promotes younger looking skin. Have all citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli and red peppers.

Manage Stress

Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. To encourage healthy skin and a healthy state of mind – take steps to manage your stress. Set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do things that you enjoy. The results will be more dramatic than you expect.

Quit Smoking

Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin – the fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity.

Taking proper care of your skin is a vital step in looking healthy and youthful and these tips will get you on the right path toward proper skin care.
