Jack’s Kitchen is a fine dining restaurant situated in the Holiday Inn at Surbiton (Kingston South), situated on the Portsmouth road running between Esher and Kingston upon Thames. When you think of Holiday Inn you may not think of fine dining but Jack’s Kitchen is different and something special.
One
Start with a cocktail or two – I don’t think I have been served a larger mojito in a restaurant. The classic Kir Royale was beautifully presented with fresh fruit and a layer of color. If you wish there is an ample bar area to sip the cocktails or have them at the table as we did.
Two
Lift the dome, release the smoke and eat the scallops. The smoked seared Orkney scallops were perfectly cooked and arrived in a dome full of smoke. The crispy duck salad was also excellent served on a Pak Choi salad with five spice dressing.
Three
For main course we chose the Suffolk farm cajun spiced chicken from the entree menu and peppered steak from the grill menu. Portion sizes were good and food was served piping hot. All food is prepared from scratch – a fact Jack’s kitchen is very proud of.
Four
Choose the signature dessert – Jack’s creative mess. This is a twist on the classic Eton mess served with popping candy and lavender jelly. We were also tempted by the chocolate bombe – next time! Each dessert have their own recommended pudding wine.
Five
Finish with coffee and maybe a booking in one of the rooms at the Holiday Inn to sleep off your food and wine.
Jack’s Kitchen is much more than a business hotel restaurant. Jack’s is a restaurant in its own right and a welcome opening in an area clustered with the ‘usual’ predictable chain restaurants. Jack’s Kitchen also has private dining options and an afternoon tea menu.
