5 Steps to Throwing the Perfect Last Minute Golden Globes Party

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

The Golden Globes air this Sunday! I’m pumped for a third round of Tina & Amy and the opportunity to chat about Golden Globes jewelry and fashion (check out #GlobeJewelry during the red carpet to tune into the Jewelry world’s chatter – join the party!) But everything is better with friends, so a last minute Golden Globes viewing party is in order. And if you’re just now realizing that the only way to watch an awards show is with champagne and good friends, fret not. Here are the 5 steps necessary to throw a perfect last minute Golden Globes Party.

Step 1. Spread the Word

It’s not a party if no one shows up, so get the word out now. You can use an e-vite service like Paperless Post, which has adorable options for awards show party invites, like this one.

Designed by Kelly Wearstler, the “Konfetti” is highly appropriate for a golden evening. If you’re crafty with photoshop, or you want to keep things super simple, send a Facebook invitation with custom graphics or stock images of your favorite nominees, respectively.

Step 2. Get Cooking

Planning your menu should be a cinch. Think finger foods and light bites, things everyone can pick at between dissecting gown choice, tweeting their picks for best dressed, gossiping about the red carpet rumors and sipping champagne. Buzzfeed has some great ideas form an Oscar party you can borrow from.

Yes, those are chocolate covered potato chips.

Step 3. Get Baking.

You need a little something sweet for the actual awards show once the munchies from the Red Carpet run out. These cookies include Snack Bar favorites like Junior Mints and Milk Duds, and are sure to please.

Step 4. Get Poppin’

This is twofold. First, you need a few bottles to pop. You can save a few bucks by buying a mix of champagne, prosecco and cava and have a bubbly bar. Or you can buy your favorite champs by the case for a bulk discount. Regardless, serve something sparkly (in your favorite crystal or fanciest champagne flutes) for full glam-effect.

Secondly, you need the all-time #1 movie snack: popcorn. Step up your kernel game here and serve several varieties of popcorn, along with lots of plain popcorn that can be jazzed up with flavored popcorn salt or a buffet of popcorn toppings and mixers that will satisfy any craving.

Step 5. Get Ready

You’re almost there (it’s a tv watching party and we’re two days out, let’s keep it low key.) All you have left to do now is determine the dress code and provide a little extra entertainment.

Ballots are a fun way to lighten up those never ending acceptance speeches. You can make things interesting by giving out prizes to the winner[s]. Have Starbucks & iTunes gift cards, or any other small prizes ready to pass out. Of course, you can always play for bragging rights (just as fun.)

I think I’m rolling with a fancy pajama dress code for Sunday, though if you know your friends are game, set the dress at full on Red Carpet glam. Either way, don’t forget your best accessories and a tiara!
