I do not know about you, but I love Pinterest. The site is such a treasure trove of great content that it can be quite addictive at times.

However, Pinterest is not just a fun site to browse. It is also a powerful tool that, used well, can give any brand a major promotional push.

Interested in including the platform in your social media strategy? Here are five simple tricks for you!

Generate an RSS feed

  • User feed – http://pinterest.com/username/feed.rss
  • Board feed – http://pinterest.com/username/board/rss

You can then add this feed to your Feed Informer digest, dlvr.it account, Feedburner, or Google Reader.

Monitor who shares content from your website or blog

  • Use the following link: http://pinterest.com/source/yoursitename.com. Just replace “yoursitename.com” with your domain name.

  • PinWidget  - This new tool that allows you to display the latest comments for your site.
  • PinAlerts – Your Google Alerts for Pinterest. Sign up for an account, then add the domain names of your choice. The service will send you an email every time someone shares your content on Pinterest.

Add a Pinterest tab to your Facebook Fan Page

Woobox offers a really nice (and free) option.

Pin content to Pinterest even without pictures

Use Shotpin. For more information, read Tom Treanor’s excellent tutorial on how to use the app.

Optimize your content

  • Pinned items – Make sure that your descriptions contain relevant keywords. Include one or two hashtag(s) (e.g., #infographic or #food) and an occasional question.
  • Boards – Include relevant keywords in your descriptions and titles.
