5 Reasons We’re Excited To See The Dirty Nil at Canadian Music Week 2019

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

The Dirty Nil, the Hamilton rockers on an upwards trajectory, are making a stop in Toronto during Canadian Music Week with Tokyo Police Club at The Phoenix Concert Theatre!

We've had the chance to see The Dirty Nil at WayHome, the Calgary Stampede, and in a small, intimate spot in Toronto with Live Nation over the last few years, and every time, they've had us wanting to come back for more. As they've pushed forward in their rock and roll career, they've earned more praise, built a bigger fan base, and have become even more fun to watch.

5 Reasons We're Excited To See The Dirty Nil at Canadian Music Week 2019

1. The Music

With three albums in the last three years, The Dirty Nil have kept a steady supply of rock and roll available for fans. They started with Higher Power in 2016, followed it up with Minimum R&B in 2017, and then released Master Volume in 2018. We don't know if there's going to be another album in 2019 - but if there is, we'll be ready for it.

A look at the band's 10 most popular songs on Spotify shows that they've racked up nearly 3 million streams.

And don't miss the two brand new songs, So Busted and Head On. Released on April 26, they make for a great lead into CMW.

2. The Sweaty Energy

On stage, the band works hard and plays their hearts out. And you can see the result of that drip down their faces and onto the floor. From start to finish there's a frenetic pace and energy that we love to watch and gets everyone just a little more fired up than maybe they thought they would be.

Be ready for that.

3. The Rock and Roll Vibe

A Friday night rock concert at the Phoenix is something we'd sign up for without many more details. But when we know that we're going to get That's What Heaven Feels Like, Bathed In Light, and more from The Dirty Nil, we're extra ready.

And we know we won't be the only ones. The rock and roll vibe we expect from the entire crowd on Friday, May 10 for The Dirty Nil and the rest of the bill gives us goosebumps. The sweat, the singing, the dancing, the drinking, the cheering, all of it combines to create these amazing moments away from the stage, but still part of the show.

Bring it on.

4. The Growing Hype and Reputation

With every show they play and every new song or album they release, The Dirty Nil grows their reputation among Canadian rockers. When they won the Juno award for Breakthrough Group of the Year in 2017, they earned real recognition for their talent. Since then, they've toured, given us great music, and continued to build themselves up.

When they hit the stage at The Phoenix during Canadian Music Week 2019, we expect them to prove to everyone in the crowd that the award was deserved, the hype is deserved, and that they are still on the rise towards the top of Canadian rock and roll.

5. The Intangibles

Rock shows are great for a lot of reasons, one of them is the unpredictability.

When we walk into The Phoenix, we expect great music, a lot of energy, and who knows what else. And we mean that. We expect the unexpected. Maybe the show will spill out into the crowd. Maybe there will be a puddle of sweat so big you can see it. Maybe a guitar will be thrown up in the air. We have a lot of guesses and no answers.

The energy and quality from The Dirty Nil will be fantastic, everything else will be gravy. And we really like gravy.

BONUS: Tokyo Police Club

It would be foolish not to include Tokyo Police Club also playing at The Phoenix on May 10 as a reason we're excited to see The Dirty Nil that night. It's a double whammy that we're all in on!
