It's a stressful world we live in, at the moment - even without world politics, and climate change. Perhaps you're struggling with an awful boss, too much (or not enough) work, or endless bills. There seems to be little to smile about. I know it's not easy - take it from someone who knows - but why let negativity win, and wear you down?

Let's turn our attention to what's positive, good and happy - and look at some reasons to smile.

1. Smile: Because you have friends - or family. When I consider the friendships and relationships around me and the love and support, they give me, it makes me smile. One friend said recently that he'd be lost without me. I never knew I meant so much to him! Share your appreciation.

2. Smile: Because the sun shining - life and the world seem better when the sun shines. You can smile when it rains, too - think of it refreshing the plants and animals, giving us life. 3. Smile: Because of all the things you can be grateful for - family, friends, your health, food, sunshine, your home or life. Make a list, feel that gratitude - and smile.

4. Smile: Because the physical act of smiling releases neuropeptides that fight stress and feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine, endorphins and serotonin that relax you and lower your blood pressure and heart rate. 5. Smile: Because smiling is contagious - and spreads joy to other people. Smile, even at strangers you encounter in passing. You might make someone's day. Pass it on!

And finally, smile just because you are special and unique.
