5 Minutes With: A Small World CEO Sabine Heller

By Sauceloves

If you’ve been in Dubai for more than a week (or New york, or London or any big city for that matter) you’ll realize that it *is* a small world after all.  In Dubai for instance, it’s not about the 6 degrees of separation, but more like 2.  Don’t you think?

And you may have noticed a certain online private community getting a mega makeover, and experiencing a strong comeback over the past year. Hmmm?

We are of course, talking about A Small World.  That private, international lifestyle club that can hook you up with people, places and pretty much anything, anywhere in the world, at the click of a button. (Well, a few buttons and maybe a message or 2 but you get the point). No degrees of separation necessary.

So we thought we’d catch up with the uber glamorous Sabine, whose job it is to basically travel the world, party hopping from one fabulous destination to another, and just be wonderful.

(She may do other things but we are not really concerned about those at the moment.)

Name: Sabine Heller

Age: 36

Occupation: CEO ASMALLWORLD

Nationality: American-ish, well half-Indian

Married/kids/pets?

Single with a fat cat named Ladybug. Does that sound bad? Yes, of course it does, but she’s adorable so it’s worth the hit.

suce: Where did you grow up?

SH: New York and Mumbai

suce: Growing up, what did you want to be when you got older?

An astronaut

suce: Seriously! That’s so cool!

Any unrealized dreams? (Besides becoming an astronaut, but it’s never too late)

SH: Joining GreenPeace, saving dolphins, fighting for women’s rights, exposing the meat industry, teaching

suce: Tell us one thing we didn’t know about you. A quirky secret.

SH: I own a pair of Tevas. Oh wait, but you must have guessed that from my previous answer. I collect old contracts, and I love all movies with a rap off, cheer off, dance off, drum off, surf off.

suce: Hehe we love those too.

What’s your absolute FAVOURITE thing about A Small World?  Honestly.

SH: That you can land up in a city with no friends and leave having had amazing experiences and feeling like you belong there. And guess what? We’re finally accepting membership applications after 10 years of being closed!

suce: Nice.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to and why?

SH: The ASW relaunch party in Marrakesh last May. And I’m not paid to say that. Well, I guess I am, but it’s true anyway. The party was three days of utter magic. See for youself:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G1YK_8ktN8

suce: It does look like magic!! Wish we were there!

What’s your favorite city in the world and why?

SH: I love Paris because I can be alone there and never feel lonely. And because its simply heaven, especially at night.

suce: Where’s your next dream travel destination and why?

Africa, and yes I know it’s a big place. I’m dreaming of Tanzania, Namibia, Zimbabwe. I’d like to go for a few months.

suce: What’s your current favorite item of clothing and why?

A Zero + Maria Cornejo black and white dress – because it’s chic no matter what time of day, with flats or with heals, in summer or winter.

suce: What do you think makes an outfit sucy?

Flair, individuality, almost reckless abandon.

suce: OH YEAH! Totally. We’re all about the reckless abandon. In pink.  Pink reckless abandon.
