Gone are the days of the hat being a male-only athletic accessory. Women’s fashion is ever-evolving, and hats are the next best thing. Curious about the latest craze in women’s hats but not sure what you can or can’t do? I’ll tell you something – there is no such thing as not being able to pull something off. If you want to wear it, rock it!
From baseball caps and hats to jaunty berets, here are our favorite women’s hats, and how you can rock them.
Baseball Caps and Hats
You don’t play baseball? That’s cool, you’re not a tomboy? That’s cool too. Baseball caps and hats aren’t just for the guys anymore! Girls are totally rocking them too now, and with hair-up or hair-down; the right baseball style cap can really pull together an outfit. While many on the market tend to be a little gimmicky, bold block colours or monochromatic blacks and whites in leather are a great accompaniment to any baseball cap or hat look. Check out some of the themed baseball caps and hats available at Spencer’s website.
Felt Wide Brim
Hats aren’t solely seasonal either, and hats for women can typically be worn year-round – score! My favourite style for summer or winter is the felt brimmed hat: soft, feminine and beautiful, while still keeping the sun out of your eyes, this hat suits both a bikini and flip-flops, or a big woollen winter coat. Style blog Who What Wear have a great guide to styling wide brim hats.
Oversize Floppy Hat
Oozing sophistication, this oversized hat is perfect for the warmer months and gives off the vibes of lounging around by a pool and sipping mimosas. Great for beachwear, the oversized floppy hat totally rocks over the summer – keeping your face completely shaded. Style blog Always Dolled Up has lots of tips on styling a floppy hat.
Bowler Hat
Despite what you’ve heard, the Bowler hat is simply reserved for old men and Charlie Chaplin. The bowler is an example of women’s fashion – particularly accessories – becoming increasingly androgynous. Girls can totally rock the bowler, sat back high on the head, with your hair down for an effortlessly chic look that says, “What? I just threw this hat on …” Check out the Definitive Guide to Wearing Bowler Hats – yes, there IS a Definitive guide!
Trilby
The Trilby, (often known also as a Fedora) has been getting a bit of a bad rap lately among our male counterparts. That won’t stop us ladies, however! The trilby is super-cool, and is both fashionable and functional – becoming somewhat a summer staple. A great way to style a trilby is with classic vintage pieces with a feminine flair – think pastels and florals. Add a bit of punch with some killer heels or edgy boots. Check out celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Liv Tyler rocking their trilbys.
Hats do more than just keep your head warm – they look awesome and stylish, too. Which hat are you going to rock this season: sporty baseball caps and hats, or the funky trilby or bowler?
