Caffeine

Just like sugary treats, processed foods causes spikes in blood sugar which makes the insulin levels in the body go haywire. Processed foods are also high in sodium which is not helping in lowering the blood pressure. It is better to munch on apples, berries and even flaxseed as an alternative to potato chips, French fries and other processed foods.

Alcohol

Alcohol stimulates the adrenal gland which is producing a stress hormone called adrenaline. Adrenaline is beneficial when the body is reacting to a flee-or-flight response. However, if you live a stressful life, alcohol consumption becomes an adverse bill against health. The adrenal glands become exhausted which is actually opposite on the popular notion that alcohol is good for unwinding. Alcohol in effect works in reverse. It does make the stress become worse.

Salty foods

Salty food causes water retention which does not bode well with blood pressure. People that are suffering from hypertension will not get relief from salty food. That is why it is best to have a low-sodium diet to help your body cope better with stress.
