One benefit of using customizable fleet tracking software is that it can be used for a number of job responsibilities. The dashboard interface is an overview of all fleet tracking activity and can be customized for each person on your team. Very few fleet tracking solutions give you the ability to create an unlimited number of dashboards. This is important, but often overlooked, functionality that allows different departments to view only the most relevant content for their job function. For fleet management purposes, there are 5 dashlets every fleet manager should add when customizing their personal dashboard.

Keep a Bird’s Eye View

The Mapping Dashlet is the most fundamental tool used for GPS tracking. This allows fleet managers to have a bird’s eye view of their fleet in real-time. You can change the size or the display of your map to your personal preference – standard, satellite or terrain. Use the Vehicle Selector Dashlet in conjunction with mapping.

Sample Vehicle Selector Dashlet

This dashlet will control which group of vehicles will display on the map. You have the ability to filter vehicles by group and also attribute, which can be useful if you are only interested in the current locations of a certain type of vehicle. For example, you may want the map to only show your vehicles that have a boom. By using the vehicle selector dashlet along with mapping, you have the ability to display the most relevant information on the dashboard map.

Use Fleet Tracking to Communicate with Your Drivers

Great communication with your drivers contributes to successful fleet management overall. Add the Messaging Dashlet to the dashboard to stay in constant contact with your fleet. The messages will be sent to your drivers by text or email. If your fleet is equipped with portable navigation devices, such as a Garmin nuvi, you can send messages directly to their device. This will give you quick access to communicate important information straight from the dashboard.

Compare Your Drivers

By adding the Comparison Graph Dashlet to the dashboard, you can compare groups of vehicles instantly to measure their productivity.

You have the ability to customize what factors to measure against, such as idle hours, miles driven, or speeding violations. This gives you a quick and visual representation of productivity between groups within your fleet.

Stay Alert

After setting customized alerts for your fleet, add the Alert Dashlet to the dashboard to stay up-to-date with important driver activity. This provides an overview of all alert activity you have set for your drivers. Also, choose which alerts appear on the dashboard, for example you may want to be aware of speeding or idling throughout the day at just a glance.

The dashboards greatest purpose is to be a snapshot into all of your fleet’s activity. As you begin to associate what information is going to be most relevant, you can continue to add and customize further to have the most specific information possible.
