For business owners, the purpose of putting up a website is to increase sales, promote the brand, and to increase your client base. You have to increase website traffic to meet the goals of your business.

Unfortunately you can’t just click your heels together and website traffic magically appears.  You have to develop a strategic plan and one of the steps within the plan is to use SEO techniques.

Here I am going to share 5 Basic SEO Techniques which will help you increasing traffic on your website or blog.

Quality Content

Long gone are the days when you could post poor content and expect a positive result. Nowadays you must make sure the content on your site or on your blog is quality: well researched and well written.

In addition to this, make sure your content is geared towards what your site’s overall goal is. For instance if your site was dedicated to companies offering California forklift information, then your content would need to cover a comprehensive view of forklifts, including their uses and the various ones available.

Proper Tagging

Tags are how crawlers and spiders figure out what your site is about so they can categorize it. There is a variety of tags, including title tags, heading tags, Meta tags and more. Tags and the information you place in tags is key to ensuring your site can be found when search engines are going through sites to find the ones relevant to a user’s keyword input.

Incoming Links

If there’s one thing to know about incoming links, it’s this: make sure you only share inbound linkage with sites that are ranked high in search engines; otherwise it could be a waste of time … and more importantly, hurt your rankings. Don’t lower yourself to black hat linking practices as you could really harm your site’s position.

Keywords

The keywords you place within the content are another crucial key to getting website traffic. However, there is a down side, which is the prolific use of keywords.

A page with too many keywords will be penalized by the search engines as pages that are lacking value and just seeking to fill their text with keywords.

Social Media

Even your social media should be SEO-geared. Link to other sites, use specific keywords in your social media bursts and maintain an RSS feed. All of these will serve to increase your traffic and fall within your SEO plan.
