WhatsApp Fraud: Online fraud cases are increasing in India. Every day someone is becoming a victim of fraud in one way or the other. Recently, a software engineer working in an IT company in Gurugram was duped of Rs 42 lakh. Scammers have easily tricked the person into earning a handsome amount of money by liking videos on YouTube and he has fallen for it. Come, read below to know in detail.
Cheated money by messaging on WhatsApp
A person working in an IT company located in Section 102 of Gurugram found it very difficult to get caught in the trap of a part time job. According to the latest report in Business Today, on March 24, the victim received a message on WhatsApp. In this he was offered a part time job where he could earn extra money by liking YouTube videos. He agreed to join the group.
Scam done by adding to Telegram group
The person had to join a Telegram group named after a woman named Divya. The group members lured him by guaranteeing that he would get his money and asked him to invest the money. It did not take much time for those members to persuade him. The victim then transferred Rs 42,31,600 to the fraudsters from his and his wife’s bank accounts.
People named Kamal, Ankit, Bhumi and Harsh in the Telegram group had also assured the victim. He confirmed the transaction and also claimed that the victim earned Rs 69 lakh. When the time came to withdraw the money, they demanded more money.
The miscreants asked the victim to give Rs 11,000 more. After this he decided to tell the police. Then lodged a complaint against the fraudsters in the Telegram group.
Subsequently, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act in the Cyber Crime Division against the unknown fraudsters. Police is seeking bank details related to the transactions to trace the scammers.
Be aware of such frauds and do not click on any link and do not transfer money to any bank account unless you are sure.
Fraud happened before telegram
This is not the first time that someone has been cheated through Telegram. Earlier, four people had scammed a person living in Wagholi, Pune. Offered him part-time online work on Telegram and cheated him by taking Rs 8.56 lakh.
