I mentioned in an earlier post that I had given up shopping for Lent. More on that later. But this had been the source of my lack of inspiration for the blog. So I challenged myself to use all the items in my closet as fully as possible, to see how many creative I can be with what I already have. I’m sure many of you ladies out there can agree that even though our wardrobe is stock full, we just end up rotating a few new items over and over, leaving everything else to live in obscurity.
I got this orange skirt at a Salvation army for $3. A win for thrifting! A double win because even though it is a bright color, there are so many ways to style it. I’m definitely getting more than my money’s worth from this piece.
1. With a Navy Blazer
I really like the color palette of this ensemble. The navy and white pairs really well with the orange. There’s a really good balance going on here as I think none of the colors are fighting each other for attention. This outfit kind of has a preppy feel to it. I guess navy blazers tend to do that. You guys might remember this blazer I thrifted for $8. This top was from a Target clearance rack, priced at $6. Making this a major steal. Score!
2. Under a Sweater
Here is the blue/orange combo once again. This conservative look is good for a day at the office. It’s professional but not boring. I try to be conscious of making sure my figure doesn’t get lost underneath layers. A quick fix to that would be to add a belt at your natural waist line. I was also happy to see Laces & Shades posting a similar outfit on her blog, so I’m not alone in this idea!
3. Color Blocked
I’m getting more and more comfortable with this trend. Here I’m color blocking with two warm colors that are pretty close to each other on the color wheel and balancing it out with a sheer button up blouse so it’s not as in-your-face (although I’m working on the courage to block complementary colors tastefully). I think H&M is my go-to store for blazers now. They’re always so well tailored with just the right hint of special detailing. The sizing is perfect for petite girls aaaand they’re affordable!
4. With a Graphic Tee
Who says skirts are always dainty? Here I paired it with a black graphic tee, leather jacket, and pointed toe heels to toughen up the look a bit. I like femininity with an edge. It says, “I may be pretty and sweet, but I’m no pushover.” Yeaah. As an after thought I threw on this square scarf look for a retro vibe.
The possibilities are endless. You can also pair this with an earth toned tribal patterned tank, or with a striped tee tucked in. These are just some ideas, and to show that you don’t always have to be acquiring new things to stay on top of the trend. I hope you like it!
